5 Lessons I Hope to Teach My Daughter

In my spare time, I take my little pooch on walks around my neighborhood, giving my mind time to wander. As is expected, I mostly think about my baby, raising my baby, loving my baby, cleaning up after my baby, you get the picture. Today's ruminating was a little deeper than that. Here are a few lessons that I hope to instill in my Little Lady:

1) Marriage is not everything, but love is.

Don't ever seek to find marriage. In fact, don't ever seek to find love. But if love happens upon you, nurture it, work for it and love that person more and more each day. It's funny, if you work hard at loving that person, it doesn't even feel like work.

2) Your pets care as much about you as you do about them. Treat them well :)

Similar to romantic love, you should work hard at loving your pets. Your life revolves around several different people, events, etc, but their lives revolve around you. Give them the love and attention they need and they will return it ten fold.

3) Never stop learning and exploring.

Learning can happen anywhere. Some people are most comfortable in a classroom setting or reading a book while others need the experience to learn and grow. Figure out which works for you, and don't ever stop doing it.

4) Beauty isn't everything, but if a certain shade of lipstick makes you feel like million bucks, then go for it!

Though I'm sure she'll be a Beauty Queen who refuses to enter a Beauty Pageant for the principal of it, I hope she understands looks aren't everything. When you develop you mind and personality, beauty naturally follows. But hey, if dressing up is your thing, don't ever hold back.

5) If you're fortunate enough to find a passion in life, don't hold it back for the sake of being safe.

I've often wondered what my life would be like had I truly pursued my passion, which is drawing. I don't want my child to ever have to know that feeling. If a spark of passion is ignited, success will soon follow. But remember that success doesn't come overnight. I once read that you have to dedicate 10,000 hours of your time to a subject in order to fully master it. Personally, I think that estimate is quite low.

I'm sure I'll think of more random musings throughout the days. Until then...

All Our Love,

J, J and Little Lady R
